KARISH, LOUIS D. . “LOU”
Age 90 of Monroeville on Friday February 23, 2018. Lou was born on September 16, 1927 in Chalfont Boro., PA. to Louis and Jennie Karish. He graduated from Scott High School in 1945 and subsequently left to proudly serve in the US Navy on the USS Shangri-LA as Seamen First Class from 1945 to 1946. After the war, Lou met his bride to be, Rose Marie DiTommaso. The couple was married in 1950. They had 2 sons Louis (Lou Lou) 1952 (deceased), and Ken 1955, before purchasing their version of Cheers called The Overlook Lounge. Lou tended to the bar patrons while Rose worked her magic in the kitchen. They are noted for their signature sandwich called the Combination, which is a corroboration of Lou’s appetite and Rose’s culinary skills. His great work ethic kept him busy in the bar 6 day a week until his death. Lou always met you with a quick like a vise handshake followed by “what’ll ya have” before he started conversations about his beloved Steelers, Pirates or Penguins. He was as proud, passionate and loyal to their business as he was of his wife Rosie, daughter in law Cheryl A. (Oakley) Karish, Ken’s wife and granddaughters Dr. Cassandra A. Karish (fiancée) Jason Ruggles) and Kaila Karish. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Jennie Karish, and his brother Robert F. (Bob) and his wife Dolores Karish. Lou’s hobbies were Golf and 5 o’clock, not necessarily in that order. Lou was a member of Alcoma Golf Club for 30 plus years and will be soon playing with his old buddies. A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor at Pugliano’s Italian Grill, 1808 Golden Mile Hwy (Rt. 286) Plum, PA 15239 on SATURDAY March 3rd from Noon until 4 pm, a Service will begin at 3:30 pm. In lieu of flowers you can donate in his memory to: donate.lls.org or mail to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, PO Box 98018 Washington DC 20090-8018. The family would like to thank the UPMC Health System and all the employees who provided excellent compassionate care to Lou over the years.
