Obituary

Margaret “Marty” Downey, 88, of Forest Hills, formerly of Bethel Park, died peacefully on September 7, 2021. Born August 20, 1933, in Detroit, MI, Marty was the youngest of seven and is preceded in death by her parents Edward and Margaret (Monaghan) Dickson of Detroit, and her late husband Edward Downey of Bethel Park. She is survived by “four of the best kids,” Maureen Donofrio (Tom), Pat Downey (Janice Anderson), Dennis Downey, and Kathleen Grehl (Todd) as well as four loving grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Our mother was a devoted Catholic who loved to win at bingo. A lifelong baseball fan, she was steadfast and always optimistic about the Pirates. In season, she hung the Pirate Parrot on her front door. We are so appreciative of the wonderful care that she received at Juniper Village of Forest Hills. A Mass of Christian Burial followed by internment will be private for the family. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Down Syndrome of Louisville, 5001 South Hurstbourne Parkway, Louisville, KY 40291.  Arrangements are entrusted to the Robert P. Karish Funeral Home, Inc., Braddock Hills, PA (412) 271-3430.
